A residence permit is a document that identifies a foreigner. It allows them to legally stay in Poland and other EU countries for more than 90 days.
This document allows a foreigner to work, reside, and conduct business activities in Poland and the EU during the validity period of the card.

A residence permit / temporary residence card, which is issued for up to 3 years.
Long-term EU resident card, gives the right to work and reside in any EU country. It is issued for 5 years, which subsequently gives the right to obtain citizenship.
Permanent residence permit / permanent residence card, which gives the right to indefinite residence in Poland, for a period of 10 years.

What documents are needed to apply for a Residence Card
For each case (work, study, family reunification, etc.), on the basis of which you plan to apply for a residence permit (Residence Card), there is a specific list of documents. Below is a list of documents required to obtain a residence permit (Residence Card) in any of these directions:
- completed application form (wniosek);
- passport;
- rental agreement;
- PESEL/NIP number (if available);
- receipt of payment of the stamp duty;
- 4 photographs sized 3.5x4.5 cm.
For each of the grounds for submission, you need to show the inspector:
- that you have a place to live (rental agreement);
- you have means to live (employment contract, bank statement);
- you have someone to provide medical care in case of illness in Poland (insurance contract).
The set of documents for a residence permit/residence card (temporary or permanent residence) for each foreigner is considered individually by the inspector, so at their discretion, they may request additional documents. For example:
- certificate of no criminal record;
- certified bank statement.
